Dogs are part of the family, but they are not allowed everywhere: most national parks restrict them to a few trails, public beaches ban them in summer, and every regional park has its rules. This guide gathers Quebec’s hiking trails, beaches and parks that allow pets, with each one’s listing and conditions.
The rules
Leash required almost everywhere, maximum length often set at two or three metres, waste bags to bring. A few beaches and parks have an off-leash area, noted on the listing. Access can change with the season: some trails close to dogs during nesting or hunting periods.
Preparing the outing
Water for the dog, a folding bowl, a towel for the car after the beach and a collar with your contact information. In hot weather, aim for the morning: asphalt and sand burn paw pads in the afternoon. For long hikes, shaded forest trails along a lake or river are the most comfortable.
