When night falls at four in the afternoon, Quebec lights up: illuminated forest trails, lit-up gardens, the facades of Old Quebec, Christmas villages and sound-and-light walks in parks. Most open in mid-November and stay lit until early January, sometimes until the end of winter. This guide brings together Quebec’s lights and illuminated trails, with each venue’s listing, dates and prices; Christmas markets have their own guide.
Choosing your evening
Forest trails are walked in about an hour on packed paths: warm boots, and no headlamp needed, everything is lit. December weekends often sell out; book a time slot online when offered, and aim for weeknights or the start of the season. In deep cold the trails stay open: plan a hot chocolate break halfway.
Free or paid
Downtown, shopping street and public square lights are free; forest trails and illuminated gardens charge admission, often 15 to 35 dollars per adult, with family packages. Several venues offer a reduced rate during the first week or after the holidays.
