Nordic baths in the forest, urban spas, lakeside wellness centres: spa culture has taken root all over Quebec, and winter is its high season, nothing beats a hot bath under falling snow. This guide brings together the spas and wellness centres across the province, each with the venue’s listing, facilities (baths, saunas, massage therapy, lodging) and opening hours.
Tips: book massages several weeks ahead for winter weekends and Valentine’s Day; weekday bath access is often cheaper; several spas are restricted to ages 16 or 18 and up, check the listing.
Our favourites
Strøm Nordic Spa, Nuns’ Island, Montreal. The only spa in Montreal set in nature: hot and cold pools, saunas, steam baths and relaxation areas, then a meal at the Nord restaurant to make the pleasure last.
Sibéria Spa, Québec City. Alternating hot, cold and rest to the rhythm of the river, between hot tubs, thermal waterfalls, a dry sauna, an infrared sauna and a steam bath, with a café on site.
Balnea, Bromont. Perched on a mountainside above a nature reserve, less than an hour from Montreal: thermal circuit, open-water swimming, hiking and yoga on the shore of its private lake.
Scandinave Spa Mont-Tremblant, Laurentians. Baths with rustic facilities, deep in the Laurentian forest, on the banks of the rivière du Diable.
Nordik Spa-Nature, Chelsea, Outaouais. A large-scale thermal experience, with ten outdoor pools, nine saunas and a panoramic pool, and the Källa, a pool where you float in water saturated with Epsom salt.
