Our suggestions

Sleeping in a treehouse, a transparent dome under the stars, a wood-stove-heated yurt or a tiny house by a river: unusual accommodation has become Quebecers’ favourite way to get away for two nights without going far. This guide gathers Quebec’s cabins, tiny houses and out-of-the-ordinary places to stay, with each one’s listing, amenities and prices.

Our favourites

Canopée Lit, Sacré-Cœur, Côte-Nord. Cabins on stilts overlooking the fjord, glass-dome cabins for stargazing and fully transparent perched bubbles, each with a private bathroom; you get there by a forest trail.

Momentôm Refuges Nature, Petite-Rivière-Saint-François, Charlevoix. Luxury mini-chalets for two, with a secluded terrace and private spa, on a 60-acre estate with private trails and a river.

Aux Tipis de la Rivière Sauvage, Saint-Romain, Eastern Townships. Four-season tipis heated with propane, with a fire pit, on the banks of the Sauvage River, and massage therapy offered year-round.

Hillhaus Dômes Pontiac, Thorne, Outaouais. Hillside domes above a private lake, each with a full kitchen and bathroom, and a spa to enjoy the starry nights.

Folies Boréales, Percé, Gaspésie. Transparent bubbles, a converted RV, suspended tents or wild camping, with packages available.

Knowing what you are getting into

Unusual sometimes means no running water, with a dry toilet and showers at the service building: the listing says so. Check winter heating, the walking distance from the parking lot and what to bring (sheets, towels, food). A dome or cabin without electricity is best enjoyed with a headlamp and a good sleeping bag.

Booking

The most photographed places are fully booked months ahead for weekends; weeknights and shoulder seasons (May, October) offer the same scenery at half price, without July’s mosquitoes.
