Wrestling and religion share unexpected connections that are part of Quebec’s history. This is explored in the documentary theater piece “If God Wills It!” which immerses us directly into the popular fervor surrounding these two national “sports” of Sunday morning. Actor Stéphane E. Roy attempts to understand, through his research and memories, the complex relationship his sweet grandmother Marie-Ange had with wrestling. Although she was a pious and dignified woman, she transformed into a vengeful monster in front of the television, particularly against Mad Dog Vachon.
