From September 7th to 10th, 2023, at Place Ville Marie – 20 Emerging Artists to be Showcased to the General Public!

For its 6th edition, the artch festival will inhabit Place Ville Marie for the first time (in the lobby of 1 PVM and on the Esplanade PVM), from September 7th to 10th, 2023, where 20 emerging multidisciplinary artists will be highlighted. In addition to the exhibition, which will be accessible from noon to 7pm, this edition offers a rich program with over 30 free activities for contemporary art enthusiasts. Passionate visual art enthusiasts, both seasoned and newcomers, will have the opportunity to admire and acquire over 200 artworks during the festival.

artch identifies, trains, funds, mentors, and exhibits a cohort of standout artists each year who will shape the future of contemporary art. artch supports these artists in their initial stages of professionalization by providing training spanning over 4 months, a distribution platform through the festival, and a grant for an artistic project. The festival has become a must-attend event for art enthusiasts, collectors, and professionals, transforming public space into a venue for exchange and dissemination for Montreal’s emerging artistic talent.

“We are proud to support and contribute to the development of emerging contemporary art through our program, which helps promising talents professionalize and realize their projects as entrepreneurial artists. The artch festival, our year-round projects, and our partnerships open unexpected doors and leave a mark in the journey of emerging artists.” – Sarah Kitzy Gineault-Delyon, Director of artch

A Reflection on the Ecology of Activities

Curated to highlight ecological issues, the 2023 artch program includes several performance and artist workshops that rethink artistic practices in a sustainable manner. The artistic program was designed by resident artist Bianccha Philias.

Among other activities, there will be a workshop on creating ceramics using natural products, designed by Kimberly Orjuela, inviting visitors to create works with wild clay and terracotta. Elyse Lewis will lead a writing and photography workshop focused on introspection and the concept of “care,” a notion that ties us to the sustainable use of resources. Bianccha Philias will organize a paper-making workshop aimed at repurposing used paper and giving it a new life. Finally, Tania Lara Casaubon will offer an embroidery activity focused on reusing clothing to create new pieces.

New Additions for 2023

Seeking to renew its offerings each year, artch will provide several new features for both families and professionals throughout the festival.

Among them is a panel discussion in partnership with the AGAC (Association of Contemporary Art Galleries), addressing collections in the emerging contemporary art field, to be presented on Friday, September 8th, at 12pm.

The Montreal Museum of Fine Arts will offer creative workshops dedicated to children of all ages and their parents. These outdoor workshops will allow young artists to demystify art and get initiated into creation at the Vélo des beaux-arts, which will be filled with artistic materials.

Finally, Circuit-Est will present a contemporary dance performance to introduce visitors to this discipline.

A vernissage will take place on September 7th starting at 6pm, featuring performances, artistic activations, speeches, musical programming, and a special edition Boldwin beer by artch. This will address the new visual identity of artch, designed by emerging graphic artists from Collège Salette and Cloé Pluquet. The 6th edition’s performing artists, Edmond Rochette Pelletier and Selina Latour, will perform continuously throughout the evening, and an activation by Molly Bertheaud will also be present.
