The exhibition Fleurir sourire brings together the creations of kindergarten students who participated to the petite caravane’s workshops throughout the year.
Developed and offered by the Centre d’artistes Caravansérail (Rimouski), the petite caravane is an initiation program to the artistic language and an introduction to current art meant for children from 4 to 6 years old. Monthly during the year, our mediators Florence Vinet and Iseaube Myette Bergeron have visited 19 kindergarten classes in and around Rimouski to run workshops.
Firstly, the petite caravane gives an opportunity to the children to discover the work of quebecois artists in Bas-Saint-Laurent. By presenting their art, our mediators encourage the students to express themselves about subjects that resonates with them, like identity, difference, security, nature and imagination. The children learn all about how the artists adresses, through art, important ecological, social and human matters.
Secondly, the students take inspiration from the presented artists to experiment multiple artistic techniques, formats and postures. Throughout the year, the children work with paper, drawing, collage, sculpting, natural dies and many more mediums. These practical moments allows the participants to express themselves, live their creativity and develop a taste for visual arts.
This year, Caravansérail could extend the program to 19 kindergarten classes, with the financial help of the Fondation communautaires Postes Canada, adding on to the recurring financial support from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec. THe exhibition that concludes this sixth edition of the program puts under the light the artworks of above 300 students. Taking the shape of a strange and abundant garden, Fleurir sourire contains the creations that the children made, taking inspiration from the artists Jiwan Larouche, Alissa Bilodeau, Marven Clerveau and Élise Provencher.
