As part of Black History Month, this concert highlights the Canadian-Haitian soprano Marie-Josée Lord, accompanied by the Orchestre classique de Montréal (OCM) under the direction of Kalena Bovell, an African American and Hispanic conductor. This program showcases works by Afro-descendant composers, including William Grant Still and Florence Price. The second part of the concert features “Honey and Rue,” a poignant song cycle by André Previn, with lyrics by Toni Morrison, exploring the “sweet and bitter” aspects of life and love in the African American experience.
