“L’empire du castor” tells the adventures and upheavals of the Hudson’s Bay Company, a precursor to modern multinationals. The play focuses on the extraordinary journey of George Simpson, nicknamed the Emperor of the North. On stage, six floor clerks bring him to life and embody a multitude of characters who crossed his remarkable path: Indigenous trappers, Canadian voyageurs, Métis interpreters, English capitalists, exiled Highlanders… A gripping theatrical fresco that sheds light on the workings of a colonial capitalism whose repercussions are still felt today.
